*Seal Day was established on October 1, 1873, when a proclamation from the Dajokan (Grand Council of State) stipulated that official documents be stamped with a registered seal. This led to the spread of the seal culture in Japan. To commemorate this proclamation, October 1 was established as "Seal Day."
