How the black buffalo HANKO is made

The ``black water buffalo'' stamp material, which is widely used as a HANKO, is made from the horns of water buffalo from Southeast Asia.

Buffalo horns are imported from India and Myanmar.

Approximately 4/5 of a buffalo's horn is hollow. There are surprisingly few parts that can actually be used as a HANKO.

The best place to use as a stamp material is from 10 to 15 cm from the tip of the corner.

Cut the corners from the square into an octagon.

Cut into squares so that the core of the corner is in the center.

Cut the HANKO to approximately 7cm long.

Process it into a cylindrical shape, centering on the corner core.

Add a rounded head and a seal.

Use a grinder to make the exact diameter.

Dye the stamp material black.

Prepare the surface with a rough buff.

Finish by buffing to give it a shine.
